Mission Statement

Grace Institute empowers low-income women in the New York area to achieve employment and economic self-sufficiency by providing job-skills training, counseling, placement services and continuous learning opportunities that lead to upwardly mobile employment.

About This Cause

Today, Grace Institute serves 300 unemployed and underserved women a year through two programs: Administrative Professional Program and Patient Service Representative. The organization is divided into five areas: admissions, workforce training, job placement, social services, and alumnae services. Grace Institute’s students are women, ages 18 -65 who are unemployed and have a High School diploma or GED. The majority of women that enroll at Grace are living at or below the federal poverty line, and 70% are receiving financial support such as public assistance, unemployment, child support, food stamps and/or Section 8 housing. Forty percent of Grace students are single mothers and are raising children on an average annual income level of $6,000. Coming to Grace Institute serves as a turning point in our students’ lives. We strive to place 75% of our graduates in “ladder jobs” – full-time, salaried employed with benefits, professional development opportunities, and upward mobility.
