Mission Statement
Calvary Fund supports Calvary Hospital. Calvary Hospital's mission is to care for adult patients with advanced cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. Whether we care for people as inpatients or in the comfort of their homes, Calvary employees are dedicated to caring for the medical, emotional and spiritual needs of our patients and their families. We do not abandon them when they need us most.
About This Cause
From our humble beginnings in 1899 on Perry Street in Greenwich Village, Calvary has grown tremendously in scope over the years. Whether we are providing inpatient care, home care, hospice, outpatient care, or wound care, we are guided by our mission: to bring Calvary’s compassionate, expert care to terminally ill people suffering from advanced cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, and to care for the families with the same love and sensitivity as we provide to the patients. In addition to our Bronx and Brooklyn facilities, Calvary@Home brings our signature care to hundreds of people every day wherever they reside. Now with The Dawn Greene Hospice in Manhattan, we are reaching more people than ever before. In 2015, Calvary marked several milestones: • We cared for more than 6,180 patients and families. Our 200-bed Bronx campus and our 25-bed satellite at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn served 3,024 inpatients; hospice and home care served 2,712 patients throughout the greater New York area; and 443 patients sought help at our Center for Curative and Palliative Wound Care. • The Dawn Greene Hospice opened its doors at Mary Manning Walsh Home. This brand new facility – under the supervision of Calvary@Home – allows us to bring Calvary’s signature care to Manhattan residents who need short-term inpatient care. The generosity of The Jerome L. Greene Foundation and Mrs. Dawn Greene herself made this all possible. • The Calvary Fund raised nearly $8.5 million for our programs and services. • Calvary continues to welcome patients and families from all faith backgrounds. We felt that this was an important venue to educate the observant Jewish community about existing options in end-of-life care. • We marked nine consecutive years of Press Ganey Awards for our consistent rankings in the 95th percentile for overall patient satisfaction. All of us are proud to be able to make our patients and their families as physically, spiritually and emotionally comfortable as possible. We appreciate the privilege of caring for those most in need of our care, at a most difficult time of their lives.
