Mission Statement
SEO was founded in 1963 as one of NYC’s first high-school-to-college mentoring organizations. Our mission is to create a more equitable society by closing the academic and career opportunity gaps for motivated young people from historically excluded communities. SEO provides superior educational and career programs to such young people, addressing inequities in education and opportunity that often limit their success.
About This Cause
SEO provides a broad range of educational and career development opportunities to thousands of high school students, college students, and young professionals every year. SEO's primary programs are: * SEO Scholars, a free eight-year academic program that gets low-income public high school students to and through college--with a 90% college graduation rate. Typically, 100% of Scholars are accepted to four-year colleges and 85% are first-generation college graduates. Over 75% of current SEO Scholars are attending competitive colleges. * SEO Career, the nation's premier professional development program, providing Black, Hispanic, and Native American undergrads with everything they need to land a competitive internship: industry exposure, career guidance, interview skills, and training. 80% of SEO Career interns receive full-time job offers from SEO partners * SEO Alternative Investments, which educates, mentors, and provides access to first- and second-year investment banking analysts traditionally underrepresented in the alternatives industry. Over 90% of Fellows secure full-time jobs in the alternatives sector. AI also hosts the annual Alternative Investments Conference (AICON), which provides a day of educational panels and networking, increasing access and career development opportunities for professionals in the sector, with over 650 attendees. * SEO Law, the only program of its kind to offer talented incoming law school students of color the opportunity to receive a paid internship at a top law firm during the summer before law school. An active network of over 1,600 SEO Law alumni have gone on to work as: Chief Legal Officers, U.S. District Attorneys, Deputy/Assistant Attorneys General, U.S. District Court Judges, and U.S. Cabinet/Congress Members. SEO Law partners with more than 41 law firms in 12 cities across the U.S. * The SEO Leadership Institute provides SEO program alumni the opportunity to connect, ask advice, mentor and be mentored, as well as providing access to a host of professional resources through SEO partners. It is an empowering forum for SEO alumni to gather their collective wisdom, experience, and influence to address the societal problems that inordinately affect communities of color.
