Mission Statement
CITYarts is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to bring young people and professional artists together to create Public Art, including murals and large-scale mosaics. Through this creative process, CITYarts engages youth and connects children locally and around the world to become active participants in transforming their lives and communities.
About This Cause
CITYarts is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to bring young people and professional artists together to create Public Art, including murals and large-scale mosaics. Through this creative process, CITYarts engages youth and connects children locally and around the world to become active participants in transforming their lives and communities. CITYarts’ art education workshops and the actual creation of artworks, murals and mosaics are much more than just an exciting event for the kids participating. In the workshops youth learn valuable art skills and are exposed to artworks created by other young people from diverse backgrounds. Through this experience youth find common ground and learn they share common hopes and dreams for the future. The mural projects enable youth to become involved in their community and work with local volunteers. Youth involved in CITYarts projects develop confidence and teamwork skills as they help transform their neighborhoods into vibrant, beautiful spaces. The permanent project site, a constant reminder of their positive contribution to the community, becomes a place for youth participants to meet, celebrate their achievements, and bridge cultural differences. Because of CITYarts’ 46-year history of engaging youth in beautifying their own neighborhoods, I can state without reservation – when kids create, they do not destroy.
