About This Cause
At Junior Achievement, we give young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. Our corporate and community volunteers deliver relevant, hands-on experiences that give students from kindergarten through high school knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. JA programs empower students to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world - enhancing the relevance of their classroom learning and increasing their understanding of the value of staying in school. Regardless of economic background, many students lack the knowledge they need in order to achieve success in their future careers and in life. They simply may not understand how learning in school connects to their future success. Our volunteer teaching programs encourage volunteers to serve as role models as they use their skills and life experiences as professionals to teach young people career and life skills. Volunteers are placed in classrooms throughout New York City, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley to teach students about their role in society and how to successfully navigate their futures, beginning with the most basic understanding of themselves and their communities. In addition, JA New York sponsors a complete spectrum of educational experiences outside the classroom, like job shadowing, after-school programs, interactive games, and a variety of annual events.
