Mission Statement

NYDT was established in 1979 by a group of Deaf theatre artists who wanted to create opportunities for the production of the dramatic art form in American Sign Language. NYDT has helped establish visibility for Deaf performing arts professionals, fostering a greater awareness, understanding, and appreciation of individuals who are part of the Deaf Culture. Our mission is to enhance deaf theatre presented in ASL; encourage new artistic voices in the deaf community; and promote community outreach through the arts.
