Mission Statement
Poets House, located in Battery Park City in lower Manhattan, is one of the largest poetry libraries in the world, featuring an extensive collection of contemporary poetry and rare manuscripts, world-class exhibitions and lectures on poetics, free creative workspace with views of the Hudson River, and a dynamic children's room. We offer programs and classes for every age and level of experience with poetry, from the newly curious to prize-winning poets. Our national initiatives include public library programs that focus on advancing the understanding of the Muslim world via its poetries; deepening the public’s connection with environmental conservation in zoos through the use of poetry installations; public campaigns in trains and airports; and a website replete with audio, video and an online poetry catalog. Each year, 70,000 people visit us onsite; 15,000 children and educators learn about poetry at Poets House; and 5 million people are introduced to us via our website and national initiatives.
