Mission Statement

Harlem United advances health equality with healthcare, housing, and harm reduction. For more than 30 years we have had a simple and lofty goal to impact communities where health has been devastated by racism, stigma, and subsequent disinvestment. Our work is client centered, compassionate, comprehensive and justice oriented.

About This Cause

Activists founded Harlem United in 1988. At a time of extreme stigma, they created a compassionate community for loved ones dying of AIDS. Today, we provide world-class HIV care. And over the years, we’ve expanded to provide services for many other healthcare needs. We’ve advocated for social justice and remained rooted in our community. We’ll keep at it until we achieve health equality. Last year we engaged 5,000 New Yorkers across our vast program portfolio. Some of our accomplishments included: -Providing 19,000 medical visits for people with incomes at or below the poverty level. -Housing 800 people in long-term supportive environments that provide the stability needed to focus on all aspects of ones' health. -Serving 24,000 meals to people with chronic health conditions to reduce food insecurity and hunger. -Collecting 24,000 syringes to promote personal and public health.
