Mission Statement
ADARC's mission is as important today as it has ever been. As the world's largest private research center dedicated exclusively to fighting HIV, we are committed to finding scientific solutions to end the AIDS epidemic. A long road lies ahead and the challenges are many. But in the 35 years since HIV was identified, researchers have learned more about this virus than any other in history. We remain optimistic that science will ultimately provide decisive solutions, and are privileged to contribute to the eventual eradication of a plague that continues to threaten mankind.
About This Cause
Private giving is vital to the Center’s research mission, allowing rapid exploration of new ideas that have not yet attracted government funding. As costs rise and the pace of science increases, ADARC counts on your support to sustain the research environment critical to new discovery. Your contribution is an investment in the people and promise of ADARC. You can be confident your gift will be well spent and that ADARC is in sound financial health. The complexity of HIV and AIDS suggests that the conquest of this epidemic will require close interactions of scientists with complementary skills and talents. We have adopted a multidisciplinary approach — virology, immunology, molecular biology, and clinical medicine — to pursue a number of projects in AIDS research. Thirty three years after the identification of the AIDS virus, we have gained tremendous understanding of this complex adversary. Today, ADARC scientists are focusing on innovative research in four areas: Basic Research Next-Generation Therapeutics HIV Prevention : Vaccine Development HIV Prevention : Passive Administration of Neutralizing Antibodies & Microbicides ADARC is a leader in exploring new strategies for preventing HIV transmission. Faculty are exploring the scientific and practical application of microbicides—topical products that help prevent sexually transmitted diseases including HIV—that act as a physical barrier and/or killing the virus when used before intercourse. Microbicides have the potential to revolutionize HIV prevention by giving women the power to protect themselves.
