Mission Statement
Broadway Community sets an abundant table, believing that everyone deserves justice, dignity, health, and wholeness. We empower one another with nourishing food, a welcoming environment, shelter, medical care, life skills practice, and faithful accompaniment through challenging times. We serve one another - breaking down barriers of poverty, inequity, and privilege - until all are fed, in body and spirit. We serve.
About This Cause
For more than 42 years, we have served as a lifeline for thousands of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty. We provide a broad range of programs including a seven-night-a-week shelter, soup kitchen, on-site medical services, showers, case management, supportive counseling, and more. We dream of a world where our services aren’t necessary – a world in which no one needs to experience homelessness, hunger, or poverty. We want to be legislated out of work, and until then, are dedicated to being a bridge from crisis to stability for anyone that arrives at our doors. Believing that everyone deserves justice, dignity, health, and wholeness, we work tirelessly to meet our most vulnerable neighbors' needs -- whether they pertain to mind, body, or spirit. We are dedicated to nonjudgmentally meeting our clients (whom we call "Guests") where they are at and being a bridge from crisis to stability for anyone that arrives at our doors. We are called to this work because nearly so many New Yorkers -- especially those experiencing homelessness -- have experienced significant trauma, struggled with a serious mental health illness, feel alone, and have developed feelings of low self-worth. We want every single person member of our community to know that they belong, that they are valued, and that they have the opportunity and resources to make a positive difference in their life or the life of someone else. We are dedicated to helping our Guests find stability in their lives -- creating a world where our services aren't necessary. More than providing for basic physical needs, we look at each person holistically and strive to connect them with whatever they need to approach greater self-sufficiency.
