Mission Statement
DreamYard collaborates with Bronx youth, families and schools to build pathways to equity and opportunity through the arts. Our programs develop artistic voice, nurture young peoples’ desire to make change and cultivate the skills necessary to reach positive goals. We believe that young people in the Bronx need a continuous set of supports to help them towards positive outcomes as they navigate their educational pathway. We have every expectation that through offering sustained and meaningful supports our youth will develop the necessary tools to become creative and engaged citizens, life-long learners and the leaders and innovators of the 21st century.
About This Cause
DreamYard uses the arts to inspire youth, public schools and communities in the Bronx by committing to sustainable learning opportunities along an educational pathway, from pre-K through high school graduation. Established in 1994, DreamYard started as an idea sparked by a group of young people who wrote a play about a place where children could go to dream. In 1999, DreamYard chose to work entirely in the Bronx because of the generational need and the belief that the organization could most effectively impact change with limited resources if we focused our work in one community. Since then, DreamYard has grown to become the largest arts provider in the Bronx and a nationally recognized community arts organization that uses the arts, digital tools, and social justice to transform students, schools, and communities. We've invested deeply in the Bronx, developing an arts learning pathway for young people in preK-12th grade called the Bronx Arts Learning Community, a one-of-a kind network of 45 partnering public schools Additionally, DreamYard offers a series of nationally-recognized youth development opportunities at the DreamYard Art Center, including theater, poetry, dance, audio and visual arts, photography, fashion design and Maker projects, all focused on fostering the creative development of young social change agents in the Bronx. Join us! Please consider a donation to DreamYard to support the best of what DreamYard can offer to young people, families, schools and communities in the Bronx. ∗ With your donation of just $100, ten children can see live theater for the first time; ∗ $250 provides a year of free programs for a student at our Art Center; ∗ $500 underwrites our year-end Creative Maker Fair for hundreds of young tinkerers and inventors; ∗ $1,000 pays for warm lunches for 75 students for a month; ∗ $2,500 sends graduates to college by providing gap funding for books, housing, food, and scholarships; and ∗ $5,000 supports essential summer internships for dozens of DreamYard students. Thank you for your support and for believing that a different conversation is possible in this country; that everyone deserves pathways to equity and opportunity, and that every community should have a say in its growth and development.
