Mission Statement

World Food Program USA is a catalyst for fundraising, advocacy and engagement across the United States in support of the U.N. World Food Programme’s mission to end hunger. When you join us, you provide food and long-lasting solutions for people worldwide. We won’t stop until we reach zero hunger.

About This Cause

Up to 828 million people – more than one in 10 people in the world – still go to bed hungry each night. Severe hunger has reached unprecedented highs. A record 349 million people are experiencing the most extreme forms of hunger – up from 135 million in 2019. More than 30 million children in 15 of the worst-affected countries are acutely malnourished. This severe hunger is fueled by several factors including the climate crisis, poverty, systemic inequalities, economic downturn, rising food costs and conflict, and weak agricultural production. Access to adequate food is both an individual right and a collective responsibility. WFP is uniquely positioned to provide food assistance in emergencies and reach people most in need. WFP works in collaboration with partners and local communities to address the root causes of hunger and help people build long-term food security. WFP also offers technical assistance to national governments to support their food security and nutritional goals with a focus on long term sustainable development. With your help, WFP saves and changes the lives of more than 100 million people in over 120 countries and territories, more than half of whom are women and girls. WFP is often on the frontlines of emergencies caused by conflict, climate shocks and natural disasters, conflict as well as pandemics like COVID-19. WFP’s extensive work tackling hunger in conflict zones and strengthening the links between food security, peace and stability led to WFP being awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.
