The Vision Urbana mission is to help develop healthy, strong and caring families, empower residents to achieve their fullest potential, and provide excellent senior, wellness, case assistance and family programs which will improve their lives, impact their future well-being, serve their community, and engage society with success.
About This Cause
Vision Urbana, Inc, a NYS nonprofit, is the legacy of local community leader Rev. Dr. Juan R. Cortes, founded in 1996 with the expressed purpose of educating and empowering families, youth, seniors in the Lower East Side through services and programs designed to improve and transform their lives. As an advocacy organization and with the support of local and national partnerships and resources, Vision Urbana provides services which include a senior center and NORC program, quality case management services, a Healthy Living & Nutrition Initiative that includes bi and tri-lingual workshops, and monthly forums on different health issues, as well as a robust weekly Pantry Program that serves thousands and a Youth Leadership Mentoring and inter-generational Initiative. The organization has been featured on news during the pandemic for its COVID-19 response on the Lower East Side, emerging as the only established food pantry to provide home delivery groceries to thousands of families living across the Lower East Side, Community Board 3 district area.
