Mission Statement

New Yorkers For Children (NYFC) is a unique player in the field of New York City child welfare. We operate our own direct service programs for youth, and we oversee grants delivered through community partners or expert consultants as grant managers. As the only nonprofit partner to the city’s child welfare system - the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) - NYFC works alongside the city’s 26 privately funded foster care agencies to fulfill our mission to protect, ensure, and promote the safety and well-being of NYC’s children and families, with an emphasis on transition-age youth in foster care.

About This Cause

NYFC’s unique hybrid role as both intermediary and direct service provider gives us the infrastructure, field knowledge, and flexibility to meet the pressing needs of NYC youth both currently in foster care and those who have aged-out. NYFC serves about 1,000 youth annually - ages 18 to 26 - aiming to enroll them in college, support them through graduation, and help them gain the skills needed to enter the workforce. Since COVID, we serve closer to 2,000 youth annually. Since its inception in 1996, NYFC has distributed nearly $70 million in funds to support ACS-involved youth and families, including over $8 million in direct scholarships to foster youth to promote post-secondary education.
