Mission Statement

Endeavor is leading the high-impact entrepreneurship movement around the world.

About This Cause

Hailed by New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman as “the best anti-poverty program of all,” Endeavor is leading the global movement to catalyze long-term economic growth by selecting, mentoring, and accelerating the best high-impact entrepreneurs around the world. It has become fashionable to associate the word “entrepreneurship” with “start-up.” The media celebrates stories of 19-year olds launching companies from their college dorms and Brooklyn moms building national businesses on eBay. Yet while Mark Zuckerberg did grow Facebook from his Harvard dorm room into a publicly traded company, one third of startups fail within two years, never creating the amount of jobs and revenue that can significantly impact an economy. Endeavor believes that the real heroes are the small subset of entrepreneurs who move their companies from start-ups to scale ups, small- to medium-sized businesses that record 20% or more average annual growth over a three-year period. Endeavor Insight—the organization’s research arm —conducted studies based on World Bank surveys in a number of emerging markets. The data shows that while scale ups represent just six to twenty percent of businesses, they contribute the lion’s share of net new jobs, anywhere from 25 to 91%! By finding and supporting these high-impact entrepreneurs, Endeavor helps them create even more jobs and generate even more revenue. The organization’s track record is strong: In markets as diverse as Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and Turkey, Endeavor companies create two to twenty times more jobs than comparable companies. Since its founding in 1997, the organization has screened 38,000 candidates across 20 countries – selecting just 948 exceptional entrepreneurs leading 606 of the world’s most innovative, high-impact businesses to receive its support. The organization provides a wide variety of tailored services to help selected Endeavor Entrepreneurs scale their businesses in these tough economies. Services include: • World-class mentoring and strategic advising by global business leaders and industry experts • Pro-bono management, financial and strategy consulting by top talent from Endeavor corporate partners including EY and Barclays • Access to eMBA student volunteers • Advisory board construction • Connections to vetted investors and sources of smart capital via the Endeavor Investor Network • Education and networking events, including executive education courses designed specifically for Endeavor Entrepreneurs at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Harvard Business School. With Endeavor’s support, these entrepreneurs: • Have created nearly 400,000 jobs since 1997 • Generated $6.8 billion in revenues in 2013 • Inspire future generations to innovate and take risks In addition to its work with individual entrepreneurs, Endeavor also works to build sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems in the markets in which it operates – leveraging events, media, research and thought leadership to forge connections between entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders, schools, and other actors. These activities create the conditions for a dense and interconnected ecosystem like Silicon Valley to evolve in a place like Cairo, Jakarto or Rio de Janeiro.
