Mission Statement

As of the 2014 Pew report, 73% of non-Orthodox Jews walk away from marrying Jewish, many of whom still care about their Jewish identity. Across the board, this generation’s Jewish challenge is daunting, and the cards are stacked against them. We aim to create a community based opportunity to strengthen that identity, and give them a long term vision of their lives and choices as Jews, spouses, parents, community builders, leaders, philanthropists and activists. The most critical demographic for shaping identity is post college 22 - 30 years old, mostly untapped in New York City until now. We have the unique benefit of MEOR and OLAMI’s university network of 60 campuses across North America from which to draw, leveraging our brand, our compelling style of Jewish education, and our partnership with the Campus organizations in order to forge a smooth transition from campus to the Big Apple. We believe that Jewish identity is most vibrantly and sustainably developed through real education and proactive choices that actualize the values embodied by our illustrious history, wisdom and tradition. Knowledge is indeed power, and this Jewish generation deserves their due. Advancements in the field of education have demonstrated there are many different ways to engage information today, and we strive to be cutting edge. Our Executive Director, Rabbi Shmuel Lynn, 14 years at the University of Pennsylvania Meor, and our Director of Education, Rabbi Jack Cohen, Ed.M. of Harvard, have spearheaded a revolutionary repertoire of classes and experiences for every walk of Jewish life, each night of the week. In 2015, MEOR and Rabbi Lynn were invited to assume the mantle of the Jewish Enrichment Center (the JEC), a Birthright Alumni Organization, where we collaborated to design post birthright programming in addition to building the Meor Manhattan community through our own alumni. Today, Meor and the JEC are fully one and the same, pushing the boundaries of innovative, compelling Jewish programming and redefining Jewish community in the mold of ideas, identity, and inspiration.
