GRATITUDE FUND

NEW YORK, New York, 10025-2024 United States

Mission Statement

The Gratitude Fund was set up to offer income supports to former political prisoners of the former Soviet Union. The beneficiaries of the Fund are individuals who were prisoners of conscience and who were confined to labor camps and prisons as a result of their advocacy for human rights, including the right to emigrate from the Soviet Union.

About This Cause

Funds are collected and dispersed directly to individuals, all of whom are now at least in their late sixties and many much older than that. The Fund tries to provide semi-annual stipends - the amount is always different, based on how much we are able to raise - but also keeps a small Emergency Fund primarily to help with unexpected medical expenses and also to cover funeral expenses. Our Board of Directors consists of former human rights activists who are well-known to the human rights community: Vladimir Bukovsky, Yuri Fedorov, Alec Ginsburg (in memoriam), Eduard Kuznetsov, and Yuri Yarim-Agaev. We are a 501(c) (3) registered charity in the State of New York.
