The New York City Arts in Education Roundtable is a service organization and a community of arts education practitioners sharing information, providing professional development, and communicating with the public to promote our work in schools and beyond.
About This Cause
The New York City Arts in Education Roundtable is a grassroots service organization working to improve, advance, and advocate for arts education. We are a community of organizations and practitioners that provides professional development, shares resources, and communicates with the public to promote our work in schools and beyond. Founded in 1992, NYCAIER represents 120+ NYC cultural organizations and thousands of teaching artists in every discipline. Our primary function is to ensure the sustainability of the arts education field and to promote a culture of continuous improvement from lessons learned in classrooms and through research. We build our efforts around the values that arts are essential and that arts education is a right for all NYC students. NYCAIER produces a major annual arts in education conference, Face to Face; weekly professional development programs; in addition to ongoing advocacy and communications efforts for cultural organizations and teaching artists across the five boroughs. The Roundtable currently has over 120 organizational members and thousands of individual members, representing all five boroughs of New York City. Membership is diverse in age and demographics, generally highly educated. Their members in turn serve the entire diversity of New York City, from pre-K to elders, in all five boroughs. The Roundtable is committed to equity, inclusion, and justice. We acknowledge our complicity in the long history of systemic racism within our country and the institutions of power in our city. We will continue to work to dismantle white supremacy within our organizations, schools, and communities. Our work here is just beginning, but we know that this has been a fight for centuries.
