Mission Statement
Page 73 is an award-winning not-for-profit theater company whose mission is to develop and produce the work of early-career playwrights who have shown a commitment to a career in playwriting but have yet to receive a professional production in New York City.
About This Cause
Page 73's mission is to develop and produce the work of early-career playwrights who have shown a commitment to a career in playwriting but have yet to receive a professional production in New York City. Playwrights at this stage in their career have a difficult time seeing their work developed beyond one-day reading; without such opportunities, however, it is nearly impossible for them to advance their craft. Page 73 addresses this dilemma by offering playwrights a unique mix of two types of opportunities: 1) producing one or two New York or world premiere productions each season, each of which represents its playwright's professional debut in New York; and 2) a robust slate of personalized play development programs. Development programs include the annual P73 Playwriting Fellowship, offering one playwright a $10,000 award and yearlong artistic home at Page 73, including resources to develop one or more new plays in depth; Interstate 73, a yearlong writers group for six to eight playwrights who meet bimonthly with each other and Page 73's staff to share new pages, and who receive a public or private reading of a play of their choosing at whatever point in the year best suits their process; and the Summer Residency, a weeklong retreat for four playwrights who develop work either in solo writing retreat or with a company of actors and directors.
