Mission Statement
The award-winning New York Repertory Orchestra, NYC’s leading all-volunteer orchestra, is composed of talented professional and amateur musicians and presents a series of free concerts each season. Founded in 1992, NYRO strives for exciting performances, provocative programs, and the highest artistic level. These qualities have become the hallmarks of this exceptional ensemble. In addition to its regular season at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, NYRO has participated in the Music at St. Paul’s series at Columbia University and at the Music Festival of the Hamptons. NYRO has performed in the Chinese New Year Global Gala at Radio City Music Hall, broadcast worldwide on NTD Television, and was recently given the Omega Ensemble of New York’s “Gift to the City” award for ongoing contributions to the musical life of New York.
About This Cause
The New York Repertory Orchestra is dedicated to being the finest all-volunteer, community-based orchestra in the New York City area. The orchestra’s goal is to bring high-quality concerts of rarely-performed masterpieces, at no cost, to its local neighbor-hood audiences. Founded in 1991, the orchestra is composed of professional, semi-professional, and talented amateur musicians, and strives for exciting performances and provocative programs at the highest artistic level and with repertoire ranging from early music to contemporary compositions and with an emphasis on neglected masterpieces from the orchestral repertoire. One of the most important aspects of The New York Repertory Or-chestra’s mission is its dedication to providing these concerts to its audience free of charge. Playing membership in the orchestra will be open to experienced orchestral players upon a successful audition. Rehearsals will be held weekly, and the orchestra will perform between 5-7 concerts per season (September through May).
