About This Cause

Cares Overview Founded in 2003 Cares of Washington is a 501c3 non profit organization that provides services in four counties in the Puget Sound region - King County, Pierce County, Kitsap County and Snohomish County. Our services make a difference in the lives of over 700 people each year. Community Impact (since 2003)  Individuals served - 13,000+  80% of all clients had incomes below 30% of the AMI  73% are Individuals with disabilities  27% are Individuals without disabilities  70% placement rate of all job development clients  75% retention rate of all employed clients  82% of all clients achieved 1 desired outcome, i.e. better paying job, health benefits, degree, etc. Demographics  58 % are male clients  42% are female clients  Average age of clients served - 35  8% identify as Hispanic  21% identify as African American  6% identify as Native American  9% identify as Asian American  2% identify as Pacific Islander  54% identify as White In the Puget Sound region, nearly a quarter of working adults earn less than a "living wage,” which is $72,000 for a family of four in 2021, twice the federal poverty level (Seattle Foundation Healthy Family Survey). These low-income employees and their families are living, more often than not, in or at the edge of poverty and are particularly vulnerable to the housing and income inequalities that are growing now. For the unemployed and the working poor, one unexpected event - the illness of a family member, a car breaking down, a rise in rent, the loss of a second income - can make it difficult or impossible to get a job or get to work and often causes so much stress that job performance deteriorates. Becoming self-sufficient requires a person to build resiliency as well as confidence, and to maintain access to a social network of steadfast support. The unemployed and working poor are often unaware of, too busy to successfully access, or otherwise isolated from the public or private services that they could use to build a more secure future for themselves. Through the programing listed below, Cares impacts these underserved populations and fills the gap with a reliable system of mentors and coaches who work with our clients over the course of their career to help set goals and take action to achieve them: Cares employment services, Cares Basic Food employment/training services, HIRED homelessness employment program, Connect for Success employee benefit services. Cares of Washington is making tremendous strides in supporting the efforts to breaking the cycle of poverty for people living in Washington State. However, it is your dedication and continued personal and financial support of our mission and efforts that allows us to keep moving forward. Thank you again for your support and we look forward to partnering with you to “Open Doors and Change Lives”.
