About This Cause

Greenwich House Program Overview Medical, Health and Senior Services The Children’s Safety Project (CSP), established in 1987, is a treatment and prevention program for victims of child abuse, domestic violence and trauma between the ages of 2 and 21. Its dual goals are, first, to heal the young victims while providing them with the tools needed to lead productive lives and second, to ultimately end the destructive cycle of family violence that tends to be repeated in future generations. The Greenwich House Senior Health and Consultation Center (SHCC) was founded in 1974 with the mission to provide adults 60 years and older with mental health and case management services so they can cope with challenges as they age. It is the only geriatric mental health program in the city that offers home visits by an internist, psychiatrist, clinical social workers and home health aides. The four Greenwich House Senior Centers serve 20 percent of seniors who live in Greenwich Village and lower Manhattan. A vital resource, they provide a safe, comfortable and friendly atmosphere where nearly 1,000 friends and neighbors come Monday through Friday for social, education and cultural activities and for a hot lunch. Greenwich House attacks drug addiction through two outpatient programs, the Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program and the Chemical Dependency Program serving adults 18 years older, with the aim to improve quality of life and help clients achieve self-sufficiency. Summer Arts Camp and After-School Program Greenwich House After-School and Summer Arts Camp are designed to stretch children’s imaginations and explore their creativity while building self-esteem. The programs provide the community with a safe and constructive place for children between the ages of seven and 14; one quarter receives financial aid through scholarships. Classes include 3-D Printing, Cartoon Art, Silkscreen and Printmaking, Model-making, Coding, Architecture and Design, Pottery, Robotics, Portfolio building, Drawing and Painting, Photography and Jewelry Making. The Greenwich House Music School (GHMS) has made music an integral part of life in New York for more than a century, fulfilling its mission to provide affordable music education, professional quality training and musical events of the highest quality for all. The school offers music classes of all types to students of all ages, toddlers to seniors, and programs to the larger community through its concerts, residencies and Public School Outreach as well as needs and skill based scholarships. The Greenwich House Pottery was established in 1909, in order to teach immigrants marketable skills in the spirit of the Arts & Craft Movement, promoting handmade items as an alternative to the mass-produced goods of industrialization. Today it is a premier ceramic facility with a school for students of all ages, fabrication studio and exhibition gallery. The Pottery’s mission is to promote underrepresented artists and expand the awareness of ceramic arts through its gallery, residencies and classes. Barrow Street Nursery School at Greenwich House serves the community's 2-4 year olds and believes a solid educational foundation includes learning about character and the community. We reinforce the belief that education promotes responsibility and develops character.
