Mission Statement
Torah Umesorah - The National Society for Hebrew Day Schools - was founded in 1944 to help create a network of Jewish day schools across the United States and Canada. We are devoted to promoting and developing traditional Hebrew Studies in Jewish schools today. Torah Umesorah provides centralized administrative and academic guidance to over 600 yeshiva/day schools throughout the U.S. and Canada. When a Jewish community decides to establish a new school, when a principal wants to expand an existing Hebrew Department, they call upon Torah Umesorah. Torah Umesorah maintains a network of educators and community leaders in virtually every Jewish community of North America We coordinate the world’s largest placement service for yeshiva/day school education professionals. Our comprehensive approach to Jewish education includes the Torah Umesorah Educators’ Institute Aish Dos , North American Placement Bureau, National Teachers’ Board of License, Department of School Organization, Harry H. Beren Chair of School Supervision and evaluation, SMILE School Visitation Program, Project SEED, Community Outreach, Desk for European Jewry (serving Hungary and the Soviet Union), Department of Curriculum & Professional Development, Creative Learning Pavilion, Torah Umesorah Publications, Hemshech, Partners in Torah, CounterForce Student and Family Counseling, Camp Scholarship Fund, Youth Programs, Torah Umesorah National Leadership Convention, Parent Education, National Association of Hebrew Day School PTA’s, National and Regional Symposia for Education Professionals, National Achievement Exams, North American Campaigns, National Day School Advocacy. Torah Umesorah educational programs and other services are currently building schools throughout the United States, in five Canadian provinces, Mexico, Hungary and the Soviet Union.
