About This Cause

American Mothers, Inc.® (AMI) is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization given the responsibility of searching for and selecting the National Mother of the Year® from honorees representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Founded in 1931 as the Mothers Day Committee of the Golden Rule Foundation, AMI named the first Mother of the Year® on behalf of the nation in 1935. Many outstanding individuals throughout America have served as officers, leaders, members and supporters of this organization such as Sarah Delano Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt, J.C. Penney, First Lady Mamie Eisenhower, Norman Vincent Peale, Congresswoman Lindy Boggs, Phyllis Marriott and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Today, our mission is to educate, inspire, and recognize mothers through programs that teach, support, and honor mothers, empowering them to positively impact their families and communities. American Mothers Inc.® is a non-governmental organization (NGO) in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. American Mothers is currently working with the United Nations to raise awareness about issues impacting women and children and is committed to valuing, elevating and empowering mothers worldwide. American Mothers is the proud sponsor of parallel panels which take place each spring during the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations. Each year, American Mothers, Inc.® sponsors an essay contest for all fifth grade students or the equivalent, in the public, private and home school environment. The contest theme is "What My Mother Means to Me." Winners are selected by state, and one National winner is invited to read their essay at the annual American Mothers Inc.® Convention and will receive a $500 award. Additionally, AMI's Golden Rule Movement encourages moms to do what they do best: teach kindness to others. The Golden Rule Movement creates a more positive and empathetic culture in America by empowering, educating, and inspiring women to lead by example and model kindness and compassion through volunteerism and acts of service in their local communities. The Golden Rule Movement provides a platform for women who embody the selfless, caring spirit of motherhood, and who are using that maternal energy to make the world a better place. AMI also connects mothers with others who can help them maneuver the complexities of motherhood. We support efforts by providing grants to nonprofit organizations that benefit women and children. The American Mothers Mom to Mom Podcast has been created to elevate the above programs and our mission, vision and goals.
