About This Cause

Perhaps best known as the alma mater of Jimmy Fallon, host of NBC’s legendary Tonight Show, The College of Saint Rose is a place that values creativity, treats each student as an individual, and empowers students to achieve their full potential. With a rigorous liberal education curriculum, a wide variety of academic programs, and a mission of service to the urban community, Saint Rose has the character of a private college with the opportunities of a large university – all in the heart of Albany, the New York State capital. Saint Rose recently implemented a number of global initiatives, including the creation of the Center for International Programs. Undergraduate students are able to study abroad at the same cost of regular enrollment at Saint Rose, because the College enables students to retain their scholarships and all financial aid. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1, Saint Rose students are mentored by full-time faculty in their major, and over 60% of the classes offered serve fewer than 20 students. More than 93% of professors have the highest degrees in their field, and many faculty members engage in dynamic research with undergraduates. Students present their research findings at the College’s Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium and publish their work in the College’s Journal of Undergraduate Research. Undergraduates also co-author research papers in scholarly journals and present their findings at national conferences. Before the first week of classes, incoming first-year students choose from four early arrival immersion programs in the arts, social justice and service, or leadership skill-building. All first-year students also participate in a leadership development program designed to help students understand and develop attributes of leadership and to recognize the importance of serving through teamwork, understanding one’s own identity and values, and harnessing the power of diversity of thought. Throughout their time at Saint Rose, students live out the College’s mission through service both in the City of Albany and in alternative-break trips to Washington D.C, New Orleans, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Guatemala. Nearly 76% of students who responded to a Career Center Survey complete semester-long internships/student-teaching or clinical practicums. Students are placed in multinational corporations, research hospitals, non-profit organizations, government agencies and school districts across the country and around the world. Many graduates are employed directly from their internship with employers hiring Saint Rose graduates, due to their specific technical skills, the ability to write and analyze quickly, and a strong work ethic. Saint Rose ensures that students are job-ready and in the most recent Career Center survey, 96% of recent graduates said they were employed or pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees, and 96% said that Saint Rose prepared them for entrance into law and medical schools as well as highly competitive master’s and doctoral programs. The most popular majors at Saint Rose include: Education, Business, Management, Marketing, Visual and Performing Arts, Health Professions, and Communications. Accelerated dual degrees enable students to earn their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five years while retaining their undergraduate college scholarships and grants. Mission of The College of Saint Rose The College of Saint Rose community engages highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students in rigorous educational experiences. In the progressive tradition of the founding Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, we welcome men and women from all religious and cultural backgrounds. In addition to developing their intellectual capacities, students have the opportunity to cultivate their creative and spiritual gifts in a diverse learning community that fosters integrity, interdependence, and mutual respect. The College delivers distinctive and comprehensive liberal arts and professional programs that inspire our graduates to be productive adults, critical thinkers, and motivated, caring citizens. Our engagement with the urban environment expands the setting for educational opportunities and encourages the Saint Rose community’s energetic involvement and effective leadership in society.
