Mission Statement

The Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, Inc. was founded in 1975 by a group of community members of Schoharie County and has been an institute in our county for nearly 50 years. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit comprised entirely of volunteer members and Board of Directors with the exception of the shelter staff. We are a no-kill shelter that prides itself on the loving and compassionate care we provide to the animals in our protection. As the only shelter in Schoharie County, we go above and beyond to make sure our pets get the best possible care available. We also strive to collaborate with other organizations in our community to make sure our pets get the most exposure out in the community making friends and generating interest in their adoptions. The goal of the ASSV is to alleviate stray animal suffering and to maintain a shelter to house, feed, and care for these animals until safe and loving homes are found for them. We also strive to educate the public to spay or neuter their pets to eliminate the problem of unwanted offspring.
