CENTRAL NEW YORK SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS

Mission Statement

The CNYSPCA was founded in 1891 for the purpose of preventing abuse to draft animals pulling barges on the Erie Canal. Over the past 126 years the CNYSPCA has grown to provide protection for and to prevent cruelty to all animals. The CNYSPCA provides shelter, care and medical attention for stray, unwanted and abused animals, with strong emphasis on placing these animals in loving, responsible homes. No animal is euthanized for the sole purpose of making room for another and we work to ensure that homeless and unwanted cats and dogs through CNY have a quality alternative to a life of abuse, neglect or abandonment with an active education program and cruelty investigate.

About This Cause

In addition, CNYSPCA provides several humane education programs throughout CNY. By providing educational opportunities about responsible pet ownership and handling, CNYSPCA connects community members to animals in a fun and positive manner. We partner with students, seniors, and community based clubs to organize presentations and off-site adoption events. The cost of our work is high, and is increasing. Our budget includes basic animal supplies and food, along with veterinary care and transportation. While we are fortunate that the science of animal care is constantly improving, this means that our costs to shelter, heal and enrich the lives of homeless animals will continue to rise as well. We rely on donations from individuals and businesses, along with grants, bequests and fundraisers to cover the cost. Funds raised through varies funding sources will allow us to continue our programs and services, and to provide care for the animals in our shelter as they wait to be placed in their forever homes.
