Mission Statement

The Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA, Inc. is a private, non-profit humane organization. The majority of our operating budget is maintained through community contributions. We are not a government agency. We are funded by donations, bequests, fees and some foundation support. Our shelter does not receive funding from any national animal welfare organizations.

About This Cause

The Chemung County SPCA celebrates its 125th year of operation in 2016, making it the oldest animal shelter in Chemung County. On average, the SPCA provides 35,000 animal care days for 2,000 animals each year. One animal care day is equivalent to the cost of one animal in the shelter for one day. The shelter employs a staff of approximately 20 people.
