Mission Statement

At Aspire, we are driven by the core belief that children and adults with developmental disabilities have the right to realize their full potential and live as independently as possible. Aspire compassionately and relentlessly works toward facilitating this end. Our total commitment to the development of innovative, individualized programs, continual integration of the developmentally disabled within the community and to providing full-service solutions to the populations it serves, makes Aspire the leading agency of its kind and a true asset to the Western New York community.

About This Cause

Aspire was founded as the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Western New York in September, 1947. In the seven decades since, we’ve grown to now support more than 3,500 children and adults with disabilities through a broad range of services at more than 60 program sites from Erie to Chautauqua Counties, as well as part of Niagara County in Western New York. Our programs and services include: 43 certified group homes and apartments where 320 people with disabilities call home. 2 non-certified residences where an additional 17 people are able to live more independently in the communities of their choosing. Overnight, in-home, after-school, and recreational respite services for more than 300 families annually in Erie and Chautauqua Counties in New York. Community habilitation services provided to more than 80 individuals by trained staff in their respective neighborhoods -- assisting them and their circles of support to develop and expand what’s important to each individual and what’s important for each individual. Person-centered supports -- of which we were an early adopter and continue to serve as a leader -- including a wide-array of nationally recognized transitional and employment services programs for 150 people with disabilities. Diverse experiences for 250 people -- such as technology training, expressive art workshops and more -- through several community-based day habilitation sites, some of which co-exist with other faith-based and community organizations in order to promote integration. Staffing support to an innovative cooperative day habilitation program that was created by several of the people we support who determine the direction of their daily routines. Supported Volunteering and Lifestyle Enrichment (SVLE) services for 230 people with disabilities offering volunteer opportunities and personalized skills development. Comprehensive pre-school, educational and therapeutic services coordinated and administered to nearly 500 children and young adults -- aged 3 to 21 -- through our recently renovated and expanded Center for Learning in Cheektowaga, NY. Comprehensive mental and physical health services for people with disabilities through more than 28,000 visits annually at our state-of-the-art Article 16/Article 28 health center also located in Cheektowaga, NY. The site is also designated a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). Extensive transportation services consisting of 150 vehicles that complete nearly 80,000 trips annually to assist the people we support to gain more independence and involvement in their communities – including employment and volunteer opportunities. Aspire also serves as the fiscal intermediary to more than 80 individuals. As such, we are contracted by Medicare to pay bills, such as hospital expenses, for Medicare Part A and Part B.
