Mission Statement
Our mission is to support, educate, and advocate for individuals with breast cancer, breast cancer survivors ad family and friend co-survivors. We are dedicated to ending breast cancer and the deaths it causes. The Breast Cancer Network of WNY (BCN) proudly delivers information, education, and support to the community through a wide variety of programming. Our goal is to become a comprehensive center of resources and support for those impacted by breast cancer. From diagnosis through survivorship and everything in between, BCN offers programming to support your journey. Our programs include: TLC Totes for the Newly Diagnosed; Education Series; Support Groups; Restorative Health & Exercise Classes; Financial Assistance; a Wellness Center; and a Metastatic Research Initiative.
About This Cause
From diagnosis through survivorship, from caring to the cure. The Breast Cancer Network of WNY is a local, volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization funded by private and corporate donations. All donations received by BCN remain local and support the communities in Western New York. Our programs include TLC Totes for the New Diagnosed. TLC Totes are tote bags stuffed with information and answers to common questions that you may be faced with after a breast cancer diagnosis. It also includes resources to assist with treatment decisions and recovery, as well as various comfort items to help ease the challenges of recovery. Our Education Series allows members to stay up to date on the latest news and information as it pertains to breast cancer by joining us for our monthly education series. This program is presented the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. and includes presentations by local medical experts. An option breast cancer support group is available after the presentation. The BCN Annual Education Day is a survivorship and treatment seminar held the second Saturday of November. It is hosted off site and includes several guest speakers, various vendors, information, and a luncheon. Support Groups. BCN provides both professionally led and peer led support groups. We have specific groups for survivors, metastatic disease, and young survivors. Restorative Health & Exercise Classes. BCN offers several restorative health and exercise classes for members and nonmembers. Classes are conducted by professional instructors and held at our Wellness Center. Classes are FREE for BCN members and include yoga, tai chi, qi gong, Zumba, exercise, wellness, and art. Financial Assistance. BCN provides financial assistance to those in breast cancer treatment or living with metastatic disease. To learn more, visit our website at bcnwny.org. Our Wellness Center. The Breast Cancer Network's Wellness Center was designed for the needs of BCN and is where we host our activities. Open most weekdays, it offers a lending library, meditation room, teaching kitchen, social room, and many other resources. Metastatic Research Initiative. BCN collaborates with the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester on the Metastatic Research Initiative, where annual grants are awarded directly to area researchers. In spite of the many ways to donate to "breast cancer," relatively small percentages of those donations are used for metastatic research. When donating to our Research Initiative, 100% of your contribution will be given to the researcher and used on learning more about metastatic disease.
