Mission Statement
Teresa House offers a comfort care ministry to residents who are nearing the end of a terminal illness, and to their families, by providing a home environment of love, dignity and support. A volunteer/staff extended family cares for the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of the resident and their family during the last precious days of life, and extends into the bereavement process.
About This Cause
Teresa House is a compassionate and caring comfort care home for the terminally ill in Livingston County, NY. It is a true home-like setting located in the Village of Geneseo. Our primary goal is to provide comfort care, symptom control and pain management for our residents, as well as to be a source of respite care for the families. Hands-on resident care is provided around the clock, along with meals, laundry, companionship, as well as emotional, social and spiritual support through volunteers, nurses and social workers. Comfort care does not cure or change the course of a terminal illness. We do not use intravenous fluids, feeding tubes or CPR (resuscitation). It ensures that comfort care, pain management, and symptom control will accompany a natural death process, in an atmosphere filled with love. Admission to Teresa House is based on need with preference given to those residents of Livingston County who do not have safe care at home. Religious faith, race and gender are not considerations for admission. The resident’s personal physician will have determined that they are in the last stages of life due to a terminal illness. Referrals are welcomed from area hospitals, physicians, social workers, family members, and Livingston County Hospice. Teresa House is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. All financial support for Teresa House comes from donations, memorials, bequests, grants, individuals, businesses, service organizations, churches and fund-raising events. We also receive funding through the Livingston County United Way and SEFA, (State Employees Federated Appeal). We do not receive insurance reimbursement, State or Federal aid. Teresa House does not receive any reimbursement from insurance companies for your loved one's care. It does not bill for its services. Teresa House is a gift to the community, from the community. As it is a private, not-for-profit organization, all donations are tax deductible. Hospice will bill the health insurance company for the services of the certified hospice aide and any needed medications, supplies and equipment.
