Mission Statement

Improve access to education and alleviate poverty in Haiti

About This Cause

Home Roots Foundation is a grassroots nonprofit working to break the cycle of poverty in Haiti by giving children access to quality education, academic support, and youth enrichment. In Haiti, over 85% of schools are private and charge tuition—fees most families living in poverty simply can’t afford. As a result, thousands of children are turned away or never enter the classroom. The crisis is even worse for children from families displaced by violence and instability, many of whom now live in rural areas where Home Roots operates. These children often arrive with nothing but the clothes on their backs, having missed months or years of school. We believe every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and thrive. Our Youth Empowerment Program covers school tuition, supplies, and offers tutoring to help students catch up and stay on track. We focus especially on literacy and math and are expanding our efforts to serve the growing number of displaced children who are falling further behind. We also run the Speak English Together Club (SET-Club)—a free weekly program where students build English language and communication skills that unlock future opportunities. In 2023, we launched our first English Summer Camp, giving children a safe, joyful space to learn and connect. Your support helps more than just a student stay in school, it helps restore hope, build resilience, and create real, lasting change. One child at a time.
