Play Rugby is on a mission to use the unique power of rugby to empower and inspire youth, from underserved communities to Go Forward and realize their true potential.
About This Cause
Reacting to a lack of quality and accessible sports programs and disproportionately low graduation rates in NYC’s most at-risk communities, the Play Rugby USA program model combines athletic activity, social-emotional learning growth and educational resources for young men and women from underserved communities. Starting at Elementary and Middle school Play Rugby provides afterschool Flag Rugby programs that infuse rugby with a youth development curriculum. These programs are a pathway to our highest impact program, the Play Rugby Academy, a holistic year-round community program. The Academy has tackle programs for girls and boys, including training and games for Middle and High School students. The Academy provides a safe space and on-field social and emotional growth combined with off-field college and career readiness, with the ultimate goal of High School graduation and college or trade school acceptance.
