About This Cause
The Bartholomew J. Lawson Foundation for Children, dba Reach Within, builds health equity in low resource settings through free access to mental health services and healing resources for children and youth who have experienced significant trauma - including abuse, neglect and climate-related disasters. One cannot heal from trauma without a regulated nervous system. Our award-winning model of care supports young people across the lifespan with nervous system regulation programs aimed at improving mental and physical health; trauma-informed training for their caregivers; and comprehensive counseling, case management, housing advocacy and job/educational training services for youth. Receiving recognition from USAID, EU, the Caribbean Policy Development Centre and winner of the 2022 Island Innovation Award among 200 islands, Reach Within’s model is already expanding into St. Vincent and the Grenadines and poised for worldwide replication. UPDATE FROM GRENADA JULY 2, 2024 As many of you know, Hurricane Beryl - a category 4 hurricane - made landfall in Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinque yesterday July 1, 2024. Today, the Reach Within team is checking on the well-being of children and youth living in the five residential care homes (orphanages) across the island and mobilizing food and clothing donations for communities that have been the most impacted. We will also be leading a team of trauma specialists to provide psychological first aid and support to children in emergency shelters in Carriacou and Petit Martinique - areas that were quickly decimated in Hurricane Beryl’s path. We thank everyone for their prayers, and we will continue to pray for other countries that may be impacted in the coming days. We are grateful for any support you are able to offer our recovery and resiliency efforts at this time.
