About This Cause

Founded in 2003, PYC has become known for quality of our musicianship, serious intent of musical training, and joyful dedication to musical performance and community engagement. Our vision is to be the benchmark for choral excellent for young people in the Pacific Northwest. Beyond the field of choral music, we aspire to shape our community by fostering lifelong skills, unity, and empathy in young people. We aim to create a world where choral music is a catalyst for connection and positive change. We offer a 9-month program of intensive weekly rehearsals, the comradeship of fellow singers and opportunities to perform challenging music at high levels. Standards of attendance, musicianship and discipline are high. Each year, students develop their skills through progressively more challenging demands and training. With this foundation, our high-school-age choirs, regularly compared with college-age and adult ensembles. PYC believes music changes lives and participation in music programs should be distributed as widely as possible, wherever talent and interest reside. We maintain a financial aid and scholarship program that enables low-income students to participate in every aspect of our activities. Over the past years PYC choruses have performed with the Oregon Symphony in over a dozen major concerts, as well as regularly with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Eugene Symphony, and Pink Martini. PYC singers "have been a lifesaver for several of our albums," Thomas Lauderdale told Stabler for an Oregonian article. "They learned Ukrainian for 'Carol of the Bells' in one afternoon. They learned Arabic for 'Auld Lang Syne' in one hour. I don't imagine there's another organization in the country where they are totally game for any adventure. They have this very mature sound, it's joyous."
