Mission Statement

Our Mission Equine-Assisted Therapy, Inc. has but one purpose; that is to provide horsemanship experiences to persons with mental, physical and psychological disabilities in order to enhance the quality and productivity of their lives.

About This Cause

Equine assisted therapy offers developmentally disabled persons with a variety of physical and mental challenges an alternative to the traditional clinical setting by providing therapy on horseback. Because the gait of a horse is similar to the human stride, this particular therapy strengthens and supports the natural motion of the spine and pelvis. As the person with physical disabilities rides, the muscles relax and muscle tone can be developed through the motion of the horse and exercise. Balance and posture improve dramatically as well. Those with mental and learning disabilities build greater concentration, lengthen their attention span and benefit from the social interaction of the class setting. An integrated team of instructors and volunteers work with the rider and horse to promote the success, the freedom, and the dignity that can be experienced through therapeutic horsemanship.
