About This Cause
Care-A-Van Ministries, Inc. has been and continues to be a street ministry dedicated to bringing church to those in the community that otherwise would not receive the message of the Good News of Jesus Christ. Utilizing the Care-A-Van vehicles, the ministry has served the community for over 15 years to bring food, clothing, compassion, love, hope, and prayer to those in need in the City/Town of Batavia and Genesee County area. As we are an unconditional ministry, everyone who has a need will be served by Care-A-Van. Prayer is offered, but is never required to obtain food, clothing, or other assistance from the ministry. Our mission is to serve our community as directed by our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 25:35-40 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Every Saturday morning the ministry volunteers bring food packets and donated clothing for distribution into a different area of the city. There are four main areas that are served each alternating Saturday morning and a fifth area during months that have five Saturdays. Beginning the summer of 2012, Care-A-Van Ministries began holding a free cookout every Thursday evening from mid May until the end of September at Austin Park in Batavia. In 2012, 4388 meals were served; in 2013, 4936 meals were served; and by the end of our 2014 cookout season, the ministry served 6,426 meals to those attending these free events. In 2015, we served 5,645 meals at our free community cookouts and our GCC student cookouts. The ministry chose to reduce the schedule of cookouts in 2015 from the end of September to mid-September as the weather becomes too inclement for cookouts. In addition to these the above food outreaches, the ministry served in 2015: 52 people received free dental work at Caring for the City Day.
