About This Cause
Tasveer: Amplifying South Asian Voices Through Arts and Advocacy Founded in March 2002 by two South Asian women in response to the rise of fear, racism, and hate against South Asians following the 9/11 attacks, Tasveer has become a beacon for social change and community empowerment. What began as a grassroots effort to elevate underrepresented South Asian voices has grown into the leading South Asian arts organization in the United States. For over two decades, Tasveer has championed social justice through its innovative arts programs, celebrating the rich diversity of the South Asian diaspora while addressing pressing social issues. Through thought-provoking films, literature, and storytelling, Tasveer fosters cross-cultural understanding, dismantles stereotypes, and creates platforms for dialogue that resonate with audiences of all backgrounds. Today, Tasveer stands as a powerful force in advancing equity, inclusion, and representation in the arts, continuously inspiring communities to engage, learn, and take action. The Purpose of this Tasveer is: -To primarily showcase meaningful thought-provoking films & storytelling from South Asia and its diaspora in the United States -To initiate a dialogue that bridges communities - between and among South Asians and non South Asians - and creates a deeper understanding of us in the society -To forefront issues concerning marginalized groups in South Asia and its diaspora including women, LGBTQ people, religious, ethnic, and racial minorities, the working class, children, and others impacted by systemic structures of oppression -To provide a non-judgemental platform for South Asians To include all South Asians and wider community of non-South Asians in our audience participation
