About This Cause

The mission of Metroball Youth Outreach is to foster a safe and positive community and the advancement of Youth through the use of sports, mentoring, and education. Metroball has been active for 15 years in the lives of at-risk youth in DC. Through tournaments, skill camps, after school programs, AAU teams, and life skills initiatives, Metroball succeeded in building safe spaces for youth to experience a positive, productive, and safe social community . Volunteers, police officers, city officials, neighborhood partners, philanthropic organizations, and corporate sponsors have all helped the program to grow. Overall, our program works to advance young people to the next level. Metroball has also achieved success responding to the growing need for more youth intervention in the DC amidst dwindling resources. Through activities which include basketball, exercise, mentoring, life skills, tutoring, and college preparation, the Metroball program develops strategic thinking and leadership skills of youth. We redirect the abilities of the youth towards constructive and non-violent problem-solving, healthy behaviors, increased self worth, and a greater sense of belonging and membership. The program also focuses on how to condition and maintain a healthy body, team dynamics, understanding game strategy, and practicing fundamental basketball skills.
