Mission Statement

Community Vision provides services, education, and advocacy to ensure that people with disabilities direct their own lives. We work with our community to foster inclusion, enhance accessibility, and achieve systems change.

About This Cause

In 1989, Community Vision was founded to help people with disabilities move out of the inhumane Fairview Training Center (Oregon’s state-run institution) into their own homes, providing supported independence with an emphasis on self-determination and community involvement. Over the past 33 years, our programs grew based on community input and need and now include: Supported Living, Employment and Job Coaching Services, Housing Resources, and Assistive Technology Services & Education. In addition, we designed and built one of Portland’s first universally-designed buildings, The Seven Corners Collaborative, housing five non-profits who provide disability services. Our goal in creating this building was to improve the ease of access to services, provide a welcoming hub for the community, and foster a collaborative environment where people can feel connected to each other, share experiences, and advocate for accessibility and inclusion. Community Vision’s core philosophy is rooted in self-direction and individualized housing. We find ways to bridge gaps and ensure people can live in a place they call their own, feel included in their community, and maintain financial stability.
