About This Cause

Formed in 2004, the Oregon Music Hall of Fame (OMHOF) recognizes Oregonians who, for 20 or more years, have made significant contributions to music or the music industry on a local, national or international level. OMHOF also supports and promotes growing musicians who will create Oregon's music legacy of tomorrow. Throughout the year, OMHOF activities include: * November-March: Gather inductee nominations from the community, forward the names/profiles to voters with broad industry backgrounds, collect ballots and determine the year's new inductees for artist, side player, industry, artist of the year and album of the year. All music genres are encouraged and recognized. * November-March: Reach out to Oregon high school music programs across the state, publicizing and encouraging applications from high school seniors who plan to pursue a major or minor in college music studies. Scholarships of $2500 are awarded to top musician students who demonstrate passionate pursuit and achievement in their music studies. * July: Hold an early summer press conference to announce OMHOF inductees and college music scholarship recipients. Oregon legacy musicians and their stories are recognized while, at the same event, upcoming legacies-in-the-making each perform at the event. * May-October: Prepare and present the annual induction in October, which includes inductee profiles and tributes, as well as music performances from a wide variety of Oregon artists. This is our biggest annual fundraiser for supporting our programs, including a signed guitar auction as well as other sponsorships and donations. * Special programs: Community programs run through OMHOF help broaden our reach of celebrating music legacy and youth education. "Aaron Meyer In The Schools" is our most established program, reaching out to K-8 students with a music program that inspires kids to pursue music studies. "Fly Me To The Moon", run by Dean Mueller, brings older classic music performances into senior centers and related places that are underserved for live music performance. "The Holler Fund" is run by David & Kathy Brooks, along with a review board made up of music community professionals, to review music artist applications for music post-production assistance grants, including mastering, distribution, social media and other promotion. * Throughout the year: OMHOF participates in various festivals and trade shows to support the community and put forth our organization's brand. * Other community events/projects: OMHOF has been the catalyst for community donations to benefit special members in the music community. Through fundraising drives and single events, we have helped raise money for artists in personal need or to help fund projects like a musical arts film. In summary, OMHOF's work is a cyclical effort to shine light on the stories of Oregon's great music contributors. At the same time, we encourage and provide support for those who will contribute for decades to come.
