Mission Statement
Minds Matter of Colorado, Inc. (MMCO) is a non-profit with a mission to transform the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income backgrounds by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success. We provide students with mentorship, programming, and resources to get into four-year colleges and universities with scholarships. MMCO’s vision is clear: break the cycle of poverty by improving access to quality education, and we're 100% successful at doing so: since 2004, we have helped *every single one* of our graduates (100%) gain acceptance to four-year colleges/universities with scholarships.
About This Cause
To accomplish its mission, MMCO helps close the achievement gap by intensely focusing resources to individual students around three main areas: Mentorship, College Access programming, and Summer Programs. Mentorship: Each student is paired with two adult mentors. College Access Programming: The students and mentors meet for two hours each Monday of the school year, for three years, to work on the following college-readiness areas: Community Leadership+Relationships, Writing+Critical Thinking, Communication+Public Speaking, and College+Test+Career Preparation. Summer Programs: Every student is given access to pre-collegiate programs in the summers after 10th and 11th grades. These programs are paid for by MMCO, at no cost to the student, and provide students an experience on a college campus, taking college courses, with students from across the country, offering them a distinct identity shift from that of a high school student to that of a future college graduate.
