Mission Statement

The Center for Courageous Kids' mission is instilling inspiration and empowerment while enhancing the lives of children with serious illnesses. We provide a place where children living with life threatening illnesses and disabilities and their families could come free of charge and have fun, find respite, feel accepted as they are, and forget about their everyday struggles. As a medical camping facility, The Center for Courageous Kids (CCK) strives to offer children who are typically spectating rather than participating the opportunity to fully engage in programs and focus on their abilities.

About This Cause

The Center for Courageous Kids' mission is to provide a place where children living with life altering illnesses and their families can come free of charge and have fun, find respite, feel accepted as they are, and forget about their everyday struggles. As a medical camping facility, The Center for Courageous Kids (CCK) strives to offer children who are typically spectating rather than participating the opportunity to fully engage in programs and focus on their abilities. CCK achieves this mission through its yearlong program schedule that has served over 43,000 campers, with more than 113 different illnesses from 46 states and 13 countries. As a state-of-the-art medical camp accredited by the American Camp Association, our medical and program staffs are highly trained pediatric professionals with expertise in medicine and therapeutic programs who are able to conduct continuing care such as chemotherapy, dialysis, transfusions, pain management, respiratory support, and medications on site. CCK's programs - including overnight camping and Family Retreat Weekends - provide campers with activities that create opportunities for free play, promote a healthy lifestyle, and achieve a better understanding of their health conditions . Through these programs, CCK addresses the current need for children and families living with serious illness or disability to have the opportunity to engage in activities such as outdoor recreation, wellness programming, and physical play that is typically very limited to them. The quality of life for these children depends on the successful management of their psychological health as well as on their medical treatment; at CCK, each child has the opportunity to enjoy an inclusive environment and to experience daily contact with other children who share similar life challenges. Medically, children are educated about their health condition and are able to articulate the challenges of their condition. Additionally, many campers learn to self-regulate their health condition and participate in management of medications, care procedures, use of adaptive equipment, and activities of daily living creating a greater sense of independence.
