Mission Statement

Our Vision: New Americans flourishing as our neighbors and friends Our mission is to help refugees build abundant new lives in America.

About This Cause

Refugees flee their home countries due to war, persecution, or violence. After years of waiting and rigorous vetting, those accepted for permanent, legal resettlement arrive in America, eager to contribute and build a new life. Yet, the road to flourishing as a citizen is a long one. New Americans face challenges like language barriers, cultural differences, and navigating complex systems such as healthcare and education, which can significantly impede their long-term success in America. Friends of Refugees wants to see New Americans flourishing as our neighbors and friends in Metro Atlanta. Refugee families are empowered to move from isolation and shame to connection and confidence, and equipped with the tools they need to navigate critical life events and ensure long-term success as New Americans. Through opportunities, knowledge, and relationships. We have 8 programs in 4 areas that are critical for New Americans’ long-term success. 1. Language & Literacy 2. Maternal Health & Childbirth Employment & Entrepreneurship 3. Gardening & Healthy Food Access Our wrap-around approach supports the whole family. Our work is multi-generational and promotes cultural integration. We are responsive to the changing needs of the community. Trauma-informed practices are incorporated across our organization to support ongoing mental health and recovery.
