Mission Statement

Allegheny CleanWays is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2000 to "engage and empower people to eliminate illegal dumping and littering in Allegheny County."

About This Cause

Illegal dumping and littering both degrade communities and our quality of life. Illegal dumping creates significant risks to public health and the environmental quality. Litter creates a sense of neglect, reducing property values and inviting property vandalism. Residents and businesses have the power to prevent and eliminate BOTH illegal dumping and litter. Since 2000, Allegheny CleanWays has removed close to 5.4 million pounds of debris, including more than 36,000 tires, from the wooded hillsides, empty lots, alleys, roadways, and riverbanks of Allegheny County. That's enough to fill up 100 tractor trailer trucks, which, if parked headlight to tailgate, would stretch nearly 2 miles (or roughly the distance from the City-County Building to 31st Street in Pittsburgh)!
