Mission Statement
Changing Expectations mission is to provide the highest impact computer coding programs to inspire Black and Hispanic youth to pursue STEM and computing careers. Our programs are designed to study and increase Black and Hispanic students’ interest, engagement, learning, knowledge, and intentions to persist in STEM and computer science education and careers, including artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. We focus our work on reaching out to young people who might otherwise not have access to quality computer science education programs to close the opportunity gaps they face. In support of our mission, we provide Information Technology (IT) support services by creating work-based learning opportunities through a Paid Pre-Apprenticeship for Black Youth.
About This Cause
Changing Expectations Corp is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization committed to providing STEM and computer science teaching and learning opportunities to alleviate global talent shortages and advance the future STEM workforce by inspiring PK-12 students—especially those who are underrepresented in STEM: female, low income, and Black and Hispanic—to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) related fields. Changing Expectations purpose is to provide the highest impact STEM programs such as cyber security, artificial intelligence, civil engineering (rain gardens), robotics, and computer coding programs to inspire youth of color and prepare them to pursue STEM careers. We focus our work on reaching out to students who might otherwise not have access to quality STEM and computer science education programs. In support of our mission, we provide Information Technology (IT) support services by creating work-based learning opportunities through a Paid Pre-Apprenticeship for Black Youth. The mission of Changing Expectations Corp is to provide afterschool, Saturday, and summer K-12 informal Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education for females, African-American, Hispanic, and other traditionally underserved students who eat free/reduced lunch; to conduct STEM and Computer Science Education Research and Development; and to provide Continuing Professional Education (CPE) for Educator Certification Renewal for Teachers, Counselors, Principals, District Administrators. In 2009, Changing Expectations Corp was developed as a 501 c3 nonprofit organization.
