Mission Statement
Wheels 4 Life gives bicycles to people in need of transportation in Developing Countries. Mainly students, healthcare workers, farmers and entrepreneurs who often have to walk far distances, and have no means for alternative transportation.
About This Cause
Wheels4Life is a non-profit organization (501c 3 charity) that provides bikes for people in developing countries in need of transportation to get to work or to school, including health care workers. Wheels4life was founded by extreme biking legend and former Mountain Bike World Champion Hans Rey [hansrey.com] and his wife Carmen Rey. Everybody at W4L works on a volunteer basis, Rey pays for his related travel expenses out of his own pocket. Overhead is often less than 5%. Bikes are bought in the countries where they are distributed. This saves a lot of cost for shipping, logistics and customs. It also fuels the local economy and makes it easier to find spare-parts locally. Mobility in form of a bicycles is often an opportunity to break out of the vicious cycle of poverty and to make everyday life a little easier.
