Mission Statement
The Homeless Children's Playtime Project aims to nurture healthy child development and reduce the effects of trauma among children living in temporary housing programs in Washington, DC.
About This Cause
We believe play is a human right that all children deserve, regardless of housing status. What originally began as a volunteer-run organization in 2003, has grown to serve over 700 children each year across multiple shelter sites in our nation's capital, thanks to the dedication of over 300 weekly volunteers. Now, fourteen years later, we serve over 150 children and teens each week, providing two hours of play on multiple nights a week, healthy snacks, and monthly field trips, all with the goal of building resilience, fostering connection, and cultivating joy.
