Mission Statement
Our work in Central America aims to protect Central America's Pacific Slope forest and coastal ecosystems by restoring habitat and by empowering local communities through sustainable habitat management.
About This Cause
Paso Pacifico has been working since 2005 to restore and protect the dry tropical forests and Pacific ecosystems of Central America. We principally operate in the Paso del Istmo of southwestern Nicaragua and recently expanded to El Salvador as an additional step towards reconnecting biological corridors throughout Central America. We work to create a culture of biodiversity conservation and empower local community members to be stewards of our natural resources. Our main programs include local environmental education, reforestation (1 million trees planted and counting), and scientific research on and innovative conservation efforts for many endangered and threatened species. Our flagship conservation species are sea turtles, black-handed spider monkeys, and yellow-naped amazon parrots.
