Mission Statement
Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary (BCR) is a lifetime care sanctuary located in St. Pauls, NC, that cares for blind cats and those that test positive for FIV and feline leukemia - an automatic death sentence in many shelters and animal control facilities. We educate a global audience about these cats through social media platforms and 24-hour live cameras. BCR is a 501(c)3 funded entirely by your kindness. We receive no government funding.
About This Cause
Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc., (BCR), was founded in 2005 by a mother-daughter team of shelter volunteers who wanted to find a way to save cats that never leave animal control facilities and shelters - blind cats and those that test positive for FIV or feline leukemia. These cats are declared un-adoptable by law in many states and immediately euthanized in high-kill animal control facilities. BCR remains committed to demonstrating to the public that these cats deserve to live and have happy lives in the hope that more will find loving homes. With a strong and ever-expanding social media presence, 24-hour access cameras, regularly scheduled open houses, tours and volunteer opportunities, BCR now has a global following and a strong platform to educate people and other organizations by example about the true nature and abilities of blind, FIV- and feline leukemia-positive cats. BCR is involved in its local community, having spearheaded a 2014 program to make sure local first-responders in Robeson County, NC, had animal oxygen masks on all emergency vehicles. BCR also provided heat detectors for county canine police units, which alert the officers when the air conditioner in his police car fails, putting their canine partners at risk for death from excess heat. The presence of the detectors will prevent such a tragedy. BCR is a trusted and transparent 501c3 non-profit governed by a board of directors. The Executive Director is Samantha Steffens. BCR’s animal care staff includes part- and full-time personnel who take direct care of the cats on a daily basis.
